The attraction of immortality

If you had the choice, like Bella Swan did in the Twilight series, would you choose to remain a mortal or become an immortal? The decision was easy for Bella. The first and most important reason is that she is in love with Edward. As we all know, divorces only happen to other people. Also in her case vampire-human divorces literally do not happen because once the love is gone the human mate becomes the meal. Continue reading

Thirties are the new Twenties

I keep hearing the phrase “Thirties are the new Twenties”. But what does that really mean? Here is my list describing the lives of Twenty-year olds – partly derived from my own life and partly inspired by The Big Bang Theory and How I met your Mother. (Warning: This list is full of sweeping generalisations! It is supposed to provoke.) Continue reading

A Scary Valentine’s Day!

I do not expect flowers or chocolate or candle light dinners on Valentine’s Day. I know that Mr. M loves me and I think it is a total waste of money to spend them on overpriced perishables like roses. Don’t misunderstand me, I love roses for their sweet sensual smell but most of the roses sold on Valentine’s Day are deep red, lovely to look at but do not smell at all. Mr. M and I love dark chocolate and we always have some in the fridge. I don’t have to wait for Valentine’s Days to enjoy a good dinner in the company of my loved one. But this blog is not about me dissing the commercialisation of love in the name of St. Valentine. This blog is about love and dealing with the fear of losing one’s love forever. Continue reading

Whitney Houston – Another bad boy victim?

My condolences to the family of Whitney Houston.

I vividly remember sitting in front of the TV, watching The Bodyguard. Her supposedly terrible acting skills did not bother the teenager me. In fact I thought the movie was great and learned of the singer Whitney Houston for the first time. How often have I tried singing the karaoke version of the song I will always love you! But her powerful voice and musical talent cannot be simply copied. Continue reading

Confessions of a virgin

I have to confess that I am a virgin; an interview virgin. I have ten years of work experience and possess a rather impressive CV, even if I say so myself. However I have never been interviewed for a job. How did I manage that? In order to answer that I have to take you back to the year 1997.

It was June 1997; I was waiting to start my first Semester at the National University of Singapore in September. My majors were English Language and European Studies. That June, I met a really cute guy from Germany. He says it was love at first sight for him. It was love at second sight for me. As you can already guess, we fell in love and spent practically the whole of his holiday in Singapore together. When he had to leave, we decided to try a long distance relationship. Continue reading

I am a Twilight Hypnotee

Yesterday I watched New Moon for the 5th time. It was a recording of a TV telecast on Sunday. To set the records straight, I am not a Twilight Fan. I do not have a single poster of Edward, Bella or Jacob. I am neither a supporter of Team Edward nor Team Jacob. I do not own any of the DVDs. I do not have a tattoo of Rob Pattinson or Taylor Lautner anywhere on my body. I do not stand in line to be the first to watch the movie in the cinema. I have not even watched the first part of Breaking Dawn yet. I do not dream of being a vampire or drinking animal blood or fancy being together with one, who does.

I missed the initial hysteria over the books and the first movie “Twilight”. It isn’t a wonder, considering that I do not really fall into the target demographic of pubescent teenage girls. In fact even after I had read about the movie online, I wrote it off as being just another teen romance flick. Then I watched the “Twilight” movie on TV. Continue reading
