What is it?

It is not as smooth as an apple. It is not as thorny as a durian. It is not as furry as a kiwi. It is not as hairy as a rambutan. It is not as small as a grape. It is not as big as a honeydew. It is not as soft as a banana. It is not as hard as a watermelon.

Jonah takes a bite. It is not as sweet as honey. It is not as spicy as chilli. He wrinkles his nose in distaste and Mommy laughs out loud.

“Let me peel the orange for you.”

(I tried using the “Back door” technique to describe a child learning what an orange is. The technique uses negation as a form of description. Was the description engaging? Did the voice sound like that of a child?)
